What are peptides?

Peptides are short-chain amino acids that are found naturally in the human body. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein and these amino acids are specifically designed to regulate certain functions within the human body.

Ipamorelin mimics the actions of ghrelin, a gut hormone that affects food intake, fat deposition, and GH release. It binds to the ghrelin receptor in the brain to selectively stimulate the release of GH from the pituitary gland [R].

A 9-week animal study investigated Ipamorelin’s effects on adiposity and weight gain. The study involved female GH-deficient and GH-intact mice. After 9 weeks, body weight in the GH-deficient mice, treated with Ipamorelin, increased by 15.3%. [R]

Ipamorelin and the Potential Implications on Bone Health

A recent study found Ipamorelin and GH-releasing peptide-6 to potentially be able to increase bone mineral content in adult female rats. As measured in vivo, both Ipamorelin and GHRP-6 increased total, tibial, and vertebral bone mineral content compared with placebo. All substances also increased the tibial area bone mineral density. This warrants further research to evaluate the efficacy, however this can has massive implications on the treatment of bone disorders such as osteoporosis. [R]

Ipamorelin and Potential Growth of Muscle Tissue

A study was conducted to examine the effects of Ipamorelin in counteracting the catabolic nature of glucocorticoids on bones and skeletal muscle. It was shown that Ipamorelin counteracted the catabolic effects, which decrease muscle strength and bone formation, in GC-injected rats. [R]

Longer-term clinical trials on randomized populations are needed to investigate the potential anabolic effects of this growth hormone secretagogue.
